Selecting Cabinet Hardware

Update Your Home Quickly with Cabinet Hardware

When it comes to updating your kitchen, bathroom or even laundry room cabinets, sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest impact. That’s where selecting cabinet hardware comes in—knobs and pulls are one of the simplest ways to refresh your home. And the best part? Handles and pulls are the jewelry of your cabinets, adding style and functionality to your space.

As professional cabinet refinishers, we at Restyle Junkie, know a thing or two about picking out the right cabinet hardware for your home and appreciate the ease of installing well-made cabinet hardware. You want it to have the perfect style, without your new handles being the cost of a mortgage payment. That “cheap” feeling is avoidable when it comes to such an impactful aesthetic in your home. Having the finish of your cabinet hardware rub off within a few months is like pouring money down the drain! But, don’t worry, follow along and this post will help you in making the right decision in easily selecting cabinet hardware.

Whether you’re performing a little DIY refresh or having your cabinets refinished, refaced or just swapping out old hardware for a fresh look, it’s possible to swap out or add cabinet hardware without breaking the bank.

Why Handles, Pulls or Knobs Are Essential for Your Home

Cabinet hardware might seem like a small detail, but it plays a huge role in both the appearance and functionality of your cabinets. Much like jewelry completes an outfit, knobs, handles and pulls complete the look of your cabinetry and overall feeling of a room. They add a touch of personality and sophistication while ensuring your cabinets and drawers are simple to use and tie your look together.

Unsure of Where to Start When Selecting Cabinet Hardware? I got you!

Firstly, you don’t have to worry about everything matching perfectly. In fact, mixing and matching hardware finishes can make your design more dynamic. Imagine using brushed nickel handles on your kitchen perimeter cabinets while complementing them with black colored knobs on the kitchen island. Or, opting for larger cabinet handles on your linen closet doors and smaller, more delicate knobs on your bathroom vanity. The possibilities are endless with a wide variety of options. Your appliances, handles and sink do not have to match! However, it you prefer simplicity in selecting cabinet hardware, brushed nickel is a timeless option.

How to Choose the Right Hardware – 5 Things to Consider

With so many options available, picking the perfect hardware can feel overwhelming. Here’s the first overview with some tips to help you decide:

  1. Mix It Up: Don’t feel like everything has to match. Try using different finishes—like brushed nickel and matte black—for a more eclectic, personalized look.
  2. Consider Functionality: Larger pulls work well on larger cabinets or doors, while smaller knobs are perfect for compact spaces like small bathroom vanities. Large handles look great on linen closets and kitchen pantries.
  3. Size Matters: As a rule of thumb selecting cabinet hardware handles that are at least 5″ center to center, not only look better than hardware that is too small, but they also allow enough room to fit your hand in the handle. You can always go larger, but I think anything less than 5″ center to center looks oddly small on caninets. Smaller sizes are better for furniture in my opinion and bigger is better for cabinets and drawers. Consider putting painters tape the size of the handles on your cabinets to better visualize if the hardware your considering is too small or too big.
  4. Match Your Room’s Aesthetic: Make sure to choose hardware that complements your overall vision for the room. If you’re going for a modern feel, bigger and sleek are solid options. If you have honey oak cabinets, you’re probably going to want to stay away from gold. I personally picked a combination of chrome and black in my eclectic, slightly mid-century modern home, but the faucet is chrome and there is some chrome on my stainless steel appliances. Oil rubbed bronzed works well for a classic, warmer toned kitchen. There are so may places that it works well, but I wouldn’t install it on white shaker maple cabinets.
  5. Feel the Difference: When it comes to our favorite brand GlideRite, you’ll notice and feel the quality right away. Their hardware feels solid and durable in your hand, adding a premium touch to your cabinets. Heavier cabinet hardware is simple to install and will stand the test of time.

The Best Cabinet Hardware

Here’s why we believe GlideRite’s Cabinet Hardware and Accessories stands out from the competition:

  • Stylish and Diverse Designs: Whether you’re into sleek modern lines, vintage-inspired pieces, or something in the middle stylewise, you’ll find it available. There are many options that are beyond basic, but aren’t over the top for those of us that like to play it safer with design.
  • Quality You Can Feel: GlideRite’s hardware has a substantial weight and high-quality finish, giving your cabinets a luxury feel that’s made to last. This makes them easier to install and last. Ps. If you are installing yourself, be sure to get the right drill bit to pre-drill and a template kit that is the right size for your handle center to center size to get the placement correct.
  • Affordable Pricing: Despite their high-end look and solid feel, GlideRite Hardware is budget-friendly, making it easier for you to upgrade multiple rooms in your home. Don’t forget the laundry room! As opposed to a big box store, they’re offered in different quantity packs to bring down the cost for you even further.
  • Flexible Options: Want to mix and match hardware in the same room? No problem! GlideRite offers the versatility to combine different finishes and styles to create a personalized look that’s uniquely yours. Your kitchen cabinet hardware does not have to match your bathrooms or the laundry room!
