Save yourself the inconvenience and figure out the right amount of General Finishes Milk Paint for your project before you start. Here’s how to know how much paint you need.
How much General finishes milk paint should I buy?
One gallon of milk paint covers approximately 400 square feet of surface area, making this an awesome choice for kitchens. If you’re repainting kitchen cabinets or drawers, a gallon of milk paint will almost definitely be plenty. But of course, be sure to do the math to figure out exactly how much coverage you need.
Don’t forget to factor in that you’re likely going to be applying multiple coats on the same area. Be sure to consider the surface you’re starting with and the color you are trying to achieve when figuring out how many coats of paint you’ll need.
One quart of milk paint is adequate coverage for 100 square feet. This is a good size to purchase if you’re painting bathroom cabinets or if you’re simply touching up a portion of your space. One pint of milk paint is perfect for touching up one or two cabinets, doors or cupboards. If you’re not doing a complete refinishing of your kitchen or bathroom, there’s no reason to buy excess paint, as paint has a shelf life. Even if a gallon may cost a little less per fluid ounce, there’s no reason to buy more than you need.
If you’re using Snow White, you might need a little more than you think. Snow White is thinner than the other General Finishes milk paints. If you decide on that color, my professional advice is to make sure you’ve got about 20% more than you think you need.
